Holiday Inn Express West LA

K was an American friend whom I met several years ago when both of us were on academic exchange in Istanbul. I learned that she was back in SoCal after living in India for two years and contacted her to see if she was keen to meet up when I was in LA. Being an awesome friend, she offered to help us book Holiday Inn Express West Los Angeles at staff rate (half the price of the cheapest rate online). Thanks K!

The hotel’s location is great; it is located just off San Diego Freeway on Santa Monica Boulevard. Santa Monica Beach is around 15 minutes’ drive to the west and Hollywood took around half hour in the other direction. Parking is available in the hotel for 10 USD per day.

We got a huge room facing Santa Monica Boulevard. No issue with noise from the road though.

Huge and comfortable bed

TV and desk

Coffee maker

I would say that the bathroom had a weird layout.

Amenities were provided

One of the things that we loved about the hotel was the breakfast that was included in the room rate. It was self-service buffet at level 2 and had quite a few types of food to choose from.

Sitting area

Hot options – eggs and ham for the first day

Fruits, pastries and breads

Coffee or tea?

Oatmeal and cereal

On both days we ended up having quite a full breakfast and could make do with a light lunch later in the afternoon. We had to skip the breakfast on the third morning though as we needed to check out early and head to the airport at around 4am.

It’s definitely a convenient place to stay in the West Los Angeles area. While I am unsure if the normal rate is within our budget, we enjoyed our stay there.
